Silvana Suarez

"Being Miss World was a serious commitment that implied traveling around the World representing my country, Argentina".

Silvana Suarez was born in Córdoba, Argentina, on September 29th, 1958. She lived in this Argentinean city for 20 years. Córdoba is considered one of the best places in South America to attend University. For thirteen years, Silvana studied at the Domingo Zipoli institute, a school specialized in music: she graduated at the age of seventeen as a Music Teacher and Choir Director. She then studied Architecture for three years at the National University of Córdoba.

Both her parents were plastic artists (sculptors and muralists), gold medal winners, and would also teach at the University of Córdoba. Her mother would specialize in murals and her father won several national contests and exposed his work in Europe.

Silvana Suarez grew up in an intellectual atmosphere widely influenced by the Eastern Cultures. She practices Yoga from the age of eleven and got the highest rank at her Yoga school. She abandoned University due to a drastic change in her life: she was elected “Miss World” in London in 1978. Right after turning twenty she participated in this contest that was held at the “Royal Albert Hall”: that was the seventh contest she had won. After that, she signed several contracts that would keep her busy and far from home for the following ten years: she never lost touch with her family and friends, but she traveled working as a professional model; She lived four years in England, two in Spain, two in Japan, and spent two more traveling around the world. While in Tokyo, she recorded two songs for the soundtrack of Brian de Palma’s “Blow Out”, directed by Coppola and starring John Travolta. In this city, she could also learn Katsugeundo, a healing technique that combines the energy of body and mind, similar to reiki.

In Spain, Silvana studied photography at the C.E.V(Center of Visual Imagery of Madrid) and took some courses of art (portrait pictures) in Zaragoza, where she lived for two years.

She came back to Argentina at the age of 29 with the intention of setting the runways aside and start her own photography studio to work as a professional Photographer.

A year later, she married a journalist and businessman, and the idea of having her studio vanished. She then started a family: she had two children and worked as ajournalist with her husband. She was the Vice President of Ambito Financiero for ten years, and at the same time she would work as photographer for the newspaper as well. She created a section entirely dedicated to women and fashion.

After all those years of working as a journalist, Silvana became very fond of writing: she wrote two books already that will soon be published.

Nowadays, she keeps traveling around the world, mainly visiting Indonesia where she practices and improves on her meditation techniques. She loves spending time at Gili Trawangan Island, near Bali, where her present husband owns some real estate.
